It'll provide sweetly nostalgic comfort food for fans of the franchise, but American Reunion fails to do anything truly new or interesting -- or even very funny -- with the characters.

Movie Info
In the comedy American Reunion, all the American Pie characters we met a little more than a decade ago return to East Great Falls for their high-school reunion. In one long-overdue weekend, they will discover what has changed, who hasn't and that time and distance can't break the bonds of friendship. It was summer 1999 when four small-town Michigan boys began a quest to lose their virginity. In the years that have passed, Jim and Michelle married while Kevin and Vicky said goodbye. Oz and

Outside of porn, there has never been a movie with so many shots of grown men eyeing teenage girls' backsides. The result is fitfully amusing but more often just creepy.
American Reunion tries to use nudity, sex, and fecal matter to generate laughter, but the jokes are tired and predictable.
Yes, American Reunion is a juvenile outing. They steal jet skis and defecate in beer coolers. They cheat on their girlfriends and lie to their best friends. But what did you expect?
Rare is the movie that brings "American Pie" to mind and suffers by comparison, but here we have one.
None of it makes much of an impression, although there are a few nice and surprisingly heartfelt moments around the edges.
A strained, relentless quest for gross-out humor and outlandish sexual escapades.
American Reunion is of the funniest movies of the year. The filmmakers and cast captured what made the original so great while making you forget the spinoffs. Fans of the original won't be disappointed.
By the end, viewers will likely be ready for another slice of some American Pie before another decade has passed.
The cast are more likely to attend rehab than the Oscars ... but despite my scathing preconceptions, American Reunion is actually pretty funny.
American Reunion is the worst slice of pie yet. All of the jokes are ten years too old and none of the serious dramatic turns amounts to anything.
Points for consistency, I guess, on the part of Harold & Kumar creators Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg.
Tries so hard to be this generation's The Big Chill that the very reason why it exists - sexy, gross out, adolescent fun - feels thoroughly out of place.
Fans of the American Pie series should be pleased with the fidelity and care that the makers of American Reunion have taken in resuscitating the franchise. Everyone else can safely skip it.
American Reunion is one last slice of pie worth having. It's a tasty treat to the many fans who made this franchise what it is.
An underwhelming last gasp of an expiring franchise strictly for diehards inclined to laugh a final time at a plethora of recycled slapstick, potty humor and graphic sight gags.
A nice slice to finish the pie.
As a postscript to the arc of the first three films, it's a fittiingly funny and surprisingly sweet coda.
A consistently enjoyable and often laugh-out-loud crowd-pleaser.
It's simply an excuse to repeatedly rehash the kind of explicit gag which simply wasn't needed in the original 1999 movie.
SIt's reassuring to see that Suvari (wooden) and Reid (flat) can still find work that doesn't involve wearing a hairnet and a name tag.
The jokes are old and the guys are older, but it's big-hearted entertainment that does need some previous character investment to catch all the nods.
Some things they do better over there. Some things they shouldn't do over here at all.
After this reunion the only kindly option is retirement.
The guys are back and attending a high-school reunion, but not much has changed. That is not a good thing.
There are a few gags. But inevitably, the guys wind up sentimentally telling each other they should do this every year. Please no.
The old bittersweet tone is gone, replaced by the sickly sweet and the downright tasteless.

On the downside, the plot points were entirely predictable, but to the film's credit, it was true to its origins and even had a sense of humour about them. The actors involved - many of whom have since been labelled flashes in the pan, as they've had few big roles outside of the franchise - acquitted themselves particularly well, particularly, dare I say, Jason Biggs, though his best scenes were of course with master improviser Eugene Levy, reprising the role of Mr. Levenstein. Levy could make anyone look good. Seann William Scott is as Stifler as he's ever been - perpetually been, since this breakout role a decade ago - and, having never been a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan but having seen her since on How I Met Your Mother, I was impressed with how Alyson Hannigan slipped back into the character of Michelle and all her weird-girl faces.
If you've never seen the other films - and I don't mean the spinoffs - you probably won't enjoy this, and I think in the future the four films could be recut as a kind of soap opera, but it's a loyal and still pretty funny sequel. Better than American Wedding, not so good as the first two, though. It's my generation's Porky's - meaning that, in ten to twenty years, people will be asking me what the heck I'm talking about when I mention it...

Yeah, not content to end the theatrical series with American Wedding, it was decided to have a proper (hopefully) finale to the saga of a group of friends united by being classmates and bonding over partying.
Unlike the last entry, all of the gang is back for this one, though some of the roles are limited to all too brief and not always satisfying cameos. The princiapal roles are handled decently enough though, and that's where it counts the most. Since last time, things have changed a fair amount: Jim and Michelle have a two year old son who has cost them their love life, Jim's Dad is a widower, Kevin is a stay at home architect with a beard, Oz works as a sportscaster and C-List celebrity, Finch has gone into hiding, and Stifler, thouhg forced to wear a suit and tie for his job as an office temp, is still pretty much the same.
There's lots of raunchiness as one should expect, but like the others, the best moments are the ones that focus on character, heart, and the dramatic stuff. In a lot fo ways, things have changed, but then again, things have also really stayed the same. And thankfully the film does address a lot of this, and wrap up some of these story lines nicely.
Thje film is rather uneven though. Not all of the storylines and issues get addressed all that well, and due to a lot of hit and miss humor, it's evident that a lot of the time was spent half-assing things and instead relying on the shenanigans and lazy writing to carry things. I did like how the film started to address the generational divide though, thatr was nice, but I felt that, especially with Stifler, that the character hasn't really learned much over the years, and since he's such apopular character, that they ultimately felt scared abouyt taking too many chances with his character and really having him change.
I'm still gonna recommend the film though, as it is good, and a lot of fun. There's so great callbacks, especially with the music, some of the performances (Levy especially) are good, and it's just nice seeing everyone again. All in all, a flawed, but passable affair. Oh yeah, one more thing: that the film managed to surprise me with a nice little twist is a sweet little cherry on this slightly overcooked slice of pie.
